Type of Martial Arts taught: TaeKwonDo

The school was founded in 1993 by SahBohmNim Dayn La Rée in response to a growing demand in the area for top quality traditional TaeKwonDo instruction.

The Han Guek Kwan offers unlimited, flexible class schedules of morning, evening and weekend classes for ages 4-104, and for all levels of ability. Separate classes are provided for beginning students to ensure proper orientation and skill progression. The Kwan is dedicated to the development and enhancement of the physical, mental and spiritual development of its students and the promotion of hood health, sportsmanship, citizenship, prudence, courage and safety. She does not teach the “tough guy” attitude.

Although participating in tournaments is not mandatory, many of the students choose to compete and put their skills to the test with others. Tournaments participated in include the US State Championships, the Presidents Cup, The United States Cup Championships, The United States TaeKwonDo Classic and many others, both invitational and open.

The Han Guek Kwan supports many community activities such as the Women’s Emergency Shelter, L.E.A.P. (Leadership, Education and Athletics in Partnership), the Housing Authorities’ After School Program, The Boy Scouts of America and others. Special seminars such as “Safety Strategies for Women” and “Korean Language and Terminology for the Tae Kwon Doist” are offered. Demonstrations and exhibitions are often times provided free of charge as a service to the community.
